DAGGERS FOR CADETS, SABERS FOR OFFICERS
Since 1848, a uniform M/1848 dagger has become mandatory and regulated for the Naval Cadet. It has remained virtually unchanged since 1848. The cadet dagger is worn in a black scabbard suspended from the right shoulder. When a naval cadet is commissioned as a naval officer, the cadet dagger is replaced by a sabre.
