Mastiha Liqueur - Skinos: A Greek Rarity to Discover
Surprising and refined, Skinos is an exceptional liqueur, made in the heart of a small Greek island. Still unknown to many, this rarity is well worth discovering.
The Mastiha, an Ancient Sap
Skinos is a precious liqueur thanks to its basic ingredient: mastiha. Known since the time of Hippocrates and harvested only in 24 villages in the northern Greek island of Chios in the Aegean Sea, mastiha is the sap of a shrub called lentisk or mastic tree. As it oozes from the trunk and branches, it forms long drops, which the natives call "lentisk tears". In short, they are extremely rare, because very small quantities are harvested.
This precious resin is then distilled with agricultural alcohol and water to create a 30° liqueur with an inimitable taste: Skinos.
Skinos tasting
On the nose, Skinos reveals vegetal notes reminiscent of cucumber. On the palate, it offers a round and greedy attack, of great finesse and structure, with floral and vegetal aromas that coat the palate, before concluding with a long and light finish, with nuances of cucumber.
Skinos is a real taste discovery. It is perfect after a meal, served ice cold in small shots or as an aperitif with tonic and a slice of cucumber. A unique experience to savour.
